Thanks to the translation done by Sara Cremades González (teacher and philologist), you can read this article in English:

Siblings: sharks in a fishbowl

From early on, “brotherly love” has been sung and praised, but the reality is very different: already with Cain and Abel, one could sense the conflict, envy and inheritance of tragedy in the murder of Abel at the hands of his brother, Cain.

I have always wondered how the human race was brought forward by elderly parents and a single child, who was also on the run...that is another story.

To start talking about siblings, what better way to do it than from the perspective of someone who doesn't have one:

The only son/daughter. He or she is characterized as being the centre of parental love and resources. Although there are moments when they would have liked to have a playmate, this longing passes when they think that both the fish tank and its contents are entirely their own.

When siblings come:

The firstborn. From childhood they are responsible for the welfare of the young ones, which makes them the most responsible and accountable. They already have to distribute the love and attention of their parents.
It is also true that they are the ones who are offered the best opportunities if they want to continue their education. The initial economic resources are at their disposal.
They will always be the “dethroned prince” because their reign lasted until the arrival of their younger sibling. They are also the ones who are usually remembered the most because of the family's illusion of having been the novelty.
This position will subject them to the inexperience of their parents, either by default or by excess.
On the other hand, their life is going to become a constant claim, on the weekly allowance, the time to return home, clothing, etc... Let's go now to the little one:

The Benjamin. These are always going to be the princes and princesses for all eternity...they are the ones who are going to have the most attention from the family, since both their parents and their older siblings are going to be constantly looking after them.

They are usually the antithesis of the older ones, if the older ones are from Barça, the younger ones will be from Madrid, if the older ones are of a conservative ideology, the younger ones will be liberal.

Although parents try to "love" all their children equally, they cannot help but have a certain inclination towards the younger ones.
They are also characterized by being the funniest and most independent ones.

What the eldest child had to deal with (allowance, schedule), the younger one had it granted to them by inertia. But the little one does not "enjoy" everything, because when it comes to offering them opportunities for the future, their parents encourage them to continue their education, but in low-cost studies, because with each sibling the resources have been reduced and what remains is what is left...

Middle brothers/sisters. All their lives they will be forced to create alliances to improve their quality of life. Usually they will make a pact with the eldest to subdue the one who took the throne away from them (Benjamin).

The problem arises when the fragile balance of attention and resources is broken by one member's perception that he or she is being neglected. Then the child we all have inside rebels and begins to call attention to themself, usually with unjustified aggressive behaviour, lowering of school grades...until they are able to seek shelter in addictions.

Children and also teenagers need us to tell them that we love them, to hug and kiss them (even if they are six feet tall) - this usually in private - in order to say goodbye to the child who is being replaced by the young adult they will become.

Having children is pleasant, raising them is complicated, educating them by our example has no end...but maintaining a certain balance between them is an impossible mission.

The next article will be entitled:

“When protecting your children means weakening them”.
